2016 is a big year for Cornwall Care. Not only have we had national events such as the Queen’s 90th birthday and the Care Home Open Days to enjoy but we have also been celebrating our 20th anniversary of being an independent Cornish charity.
Our theme for 2016 and our anniversary is, simply, ‘celebration’. We were delighted when we discovered that we shared our theme with the Care Home Open Day – that’s a double helping of celebration and enjoyment!
Across Cornwall we celebrated the day in our care and nursing homes, enjoying indoor street parties, tea dances, cream teas, tombolas, raffles, therapy sessions and activities like Drum Therapy and reminiscence, prize bingo and so much more.
At Blackwood in Camborne we had a quiet day, enjoying each other’s company. Staff were on hand to show visitors around and welcome them into the home.
At Cedar Grange in Launceston we showcased a selection of photographs from our recent resident activities and events, welcoming in visitors and offering them tours of the home and grounds.
At Chyvarhas in Callington (pictured above) residents and staff enjoyed a tombola, raffle, cake stand and entertainment. We had a particularly lovely time dancing along to the lively DJ performance and eating the yummy BBQ style food and cakes.
“It was a lovely day. We had quite a few visitors who enjoyed it too.”
Rosie, Customer Relations Administrator at Chyvarhas
At Headlands in Carbis Bay we enjoyed a red, white and blue theme (in continuation of the Queen’s birthday celebrations), a Punch & Judy show and an ice-cream van.
At Penberthy in Newquay we had a quiet activities day with our residents with staff available as tour-guides for any visitors who wished to come in.
At Pengover in Liskeard we had a lovely afternoon eating some delicious cream teas.
At Redannick in Truro (pictured above) we enjoyed an indoor street party with a beautiful buffet and live entertainment.
“One lady told Alan the reception looks its best in years. Our caretaker has done an excellent job with many pot plants full of colour and the garden have been slowly transformed, with more light into our residents’ rooms – they can look out onto the bright colour flowers from their rooms too.”
Angela, Customer Relations Administrator at Redannick
At St Breock in Wadebridge staff and residents had a relaxing day enjoying each other’s company, while staff were there to give tours of the home and answer questions.
At St Martins in Camborne we enjoyed a tea party with an entertainment and activities session led by Music for Health.
At The Green in Redruth we got stuck into some tasty cream teas.
At Trengrouse in Helston our theme for the day was ‘Celebrating Cornwall’.
At Trevarna in St Austell we had a lovely garden tea party with dainty sandwiches, cream teas, cakes and a red, white and blue theme.
At Trevern in Falmouth (pictured above) we also celebrated a Cornish theme; residents made decorations and we enjoyed cream teas, Bucks Fizz and cake in Ellen’s Fruit Garden. We also had a pasty lunch and enjoyed activities such as prize bingo, reminiscence (activities photos) and a Drum Therapy session. It was a highly enjoyable day – we liked the drumming the best!
At Trewartha in Carbis Bay we also enjoyed a day of cream teas, offering tours to guests.
At Woodland in St Austell we celebrated all day and enjoyed entertainment by the Drummer Man (who we love) as well as tucked in to some yummy cream teas and a fish and chips lunch.
"Overall, it was a successful and entertaining day for both staff and residents."
Thank you to everyone that attended and organised activities for this event, we had a fabulous time and we look forward to taking part in it again next year!
