Chyvarhas is a 36 bed nursing home for people in need of residential and nursing care. With qualified nurses and carers, we look after our residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in a supportive, homely and dignified environment. Our staff are passionate about their roles and get to know each resident individually. Our lovely home is located in Callington, between the rustic beauty of Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor, and we would love for you to see it. Visitors are welcome at any time.
At Chyvarhas we offer residential and nursing care with qualified nurses on duty 24 hours a day. It’s extremely important to us that all of our residents feel as though they belong and enjoy the safe, homely atmosphere that Chyvarhas provides. Our team is passionate about getting to know each resident individually, as well as their loved ones, and learning the passions and needs of everyone.
When residents join us at Chyvarhas, the first thing that we do is develop a comprehensive care plan with them, setting out the care we aim to provide and how we will achieve this. We assess this plan on a continual basis, working with the resident to ensure that their needs are met. Care is available for our residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Residents’ families are always welcome to visit.
Chyvarhas is located in Callington, with Dartmoor to the east and Bodmin Moor to the west. Chyvarhas has lots of space to walk around in, as well as cosy areas where residents can sit and relax. To encourage memory and conversation, we have themed areas, such as an indoor ‘street’ complete with lighting, shop fronts and post boxes, as well as a beach inspired wing that has a beautiful mural and artwork. Our kitchen serves a freshly made menu each day and our main lounge is the centre for all activities.
The lounge has views over the gardens and double doors that lead out to the garden where - near the pond - you will find our chickens and ducks. Our sensory garden is safe and comfortable with pathways, seats, water features and raised flowerbeds so everyone can enjoy the outdoors.
Chyvarhas means ‘meeting point’ in Cornish and we have many visitors from far and wide; this adds to the feeling of warmth and affection here.
Our home is safe and homely with a loving atmosphere. Chyvarhas is one of several care homes owned and operated by Cornwall Care, a not-for-profit charity and the largest provider of care homes in the county. Cornwall Care has a reputation for genuine and loving care for residents and we at Chyvarhas are proud to be a part of that. Our aim at Chyvarhas is to provide the very best care possible in a supportive, dignified and caring environment.
Individuality and comfort are important to us; at Chyvarhas we have lots of lovely spaces for our residents to enjoy and many visitors each day. Our residents and their loved ones are what gives Chyvarhas its unique charm and sense of identity. It’s up to our residents how they wish to spend their time, whether that’s sitting down with a good book, taking part in scheduled activities such as music and crafts, engaging with our memory areas, taking a nap in our quiet zones or doing a bit of gardening. There’s always something fun for our residents to do!
Every week, our Activities Co-ordinator will prepare a list of organised activities. If you would like to find out more information or get involved, please contact our team at Chyvarhas.
At Cornwall Care we ensure that our staff are supported. We know how important it is to understand our residents and their illnesses, particularly dementia and mental health, which can often be misunderstood, so we make sure that all our staff are trained in dementia care and ethics.
We are nationally recommended and awarded for our training and career development. Our aim as a team is to provide loving support for all our residents, promoting awareness, safety and most important of all, individuality.
We appreciate that choosing the right home can be difficult. If you would like to find out more about Chyvarhas please contact us. We can provide you with the information you need or arrange for you to meet the Home Manager in person.
