Cornwall Care celebrate The Royal Wedding in style

On 19 May, Cornwall Care opened its doors to the public to celebrate The Royal Wedding.

Residents, relatives and staff were overjoyed to celebrate in their own way the union of Prince Harry and Meghan at their wedding at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on Saturday.

Residents, relatives and staff at some of our homes watched the Royal Wedding on TV whilst enjoying tea, coffee, juice, cakes and pasties. Some had timelines of all the Royal Weddings on display for all to reminisce about.

Other homes such as St Breock went one step further and linked the Royal Wedding to a ‘weddings through the ages’ wedding fayre which they held on 16 May. The wedding fayre was set up to help raise money for the garden regeneration project at St Breock.

The home was decorated beautifully with a wedding arch, bunting and balloons. 

A wedding buffet was provided in the dining room and a magnificent wedding cake was the centrepiece. The cake was made up of four tiers - one chocolate sponge, one lemon and elderflower sponge, one classic Victorian and one fruit cake tier.

The sponges were made and the cake decorating was carried out by Fiona Wickens, and the fruit cake was made by Mikala Kay Burdett. A raffle and various donations brought us a total of £270 towards the garden project. Family members, friends, staff and Wadebridge Mayor, Cllr Phillip Mitchell and his wife Louise attended.

Activities Co-ordinator Pauline Shilson was the brainchild who organised, encouraged and persuaded everyone to ensure that the day was a complete success. She was ably assisted by Jessie Russell and Janice Carhart. It really was a day to remember.
