Cornwall Care enjoys Care Home Open Day

Cornwall Care enjoys Care Home Open Day

Posted by admin on June 22,2017

Cornwall Care has been celebrating again, this time taking part in the national Care Home Open Day, an annual event that celebrates connection, togetherness and community. It is a UK wide initiative that we participate in every year.

The theme on Friday 16 June this year was ‘Friendship’, raising awareness of the importance of connecting with local communities, developing lasting relationships and encouraging intergenerational rapport. Care homes across the country were encouraged to celebrate friendships that have developed between residents, relatives, staff members and people within their local area.

At St Breock, our residential home in Wadebridge, residents and relatives enjoyed various activities including starting pen pals, taking part in reminiscence about friendship and getting involved in a fun beer tasting session.

Over at Penberthy, our residential home in Newquay, residents and staff enjoyed a singing performance by Amanda of Mandzone. We had a lovely afternoon dancing, tucking into some cakes and pasties, as well as drinking some Pimms and beer in celebration of the day.

“We had a fantastic lady singing for us. Amanda had our residents up, dancing and having a ball. David, one of our residents, even got on the microphone and gave Amanda a run for her money!”
Sam Collins, Manager at Penberthy

Residents and relatives at The Green, our residential home in Redruth, also celebrated the day, enjoying some tasty cream teas in their lovely garden.

At Mountford, our nursing home in Truro, residents and relatives enjoyed a Fish & Chips lunch, followed by live entertainment by John Inder, who sang some Frank Sinatra songs and songs from the era. Everyone had a wonderful time and really enjoyed listening to John’s tunes.

In Carbis Bay, our two homes, Headlands our residential home and Trewartha our nursing home both had wonderful days enjoying the summer weather. Residents and family at Headlands enjoyed a big lunch celebrating friendship, while at Trewartha we had pasties and cream teas in the garden, with friendship bracelets for attendees. One little visitor to Trewartha had such a lovely time that said she would like to work there when she grows up.

There were also cream teas at St Martin’s, our nursing home in Camborne, as well as a fun singalong for residents and relatives to enjoy.

At Trengrouse, our nursing home in Helston, we held a friendship themed tea party and enjoyed some tasty treats with our residents and relatives. All residents, relatives and staff across Cornwall Care’s homes enjoyed the glorious weather, with clear blue skies and sunny, warm temperatures.

Nurturing friendships and relationships within our local communities is important to us at Cornwall Care. We regularly put on activities and events for residents, relatives and friends to enjoy. We welcome visitors at all times throughout the year, but particularly enjoy inviting people in to spend time with us over the summer, when they can experience our beautiful gardens in the lovely summer weather.

We had a fantastic time celebrating friendship this year and look forward to taking part again next year!
