Digging in at Woodland

About 25 volunteers turned up at Cornwall Care’s Woodland House in St Austell for a day of weeding, clearing, pruning, digging and planting.

 

Made up of family members, friends, social media contacts and professionals who wanted to come along and help, the aim was to tidy up the garden so residents could sit out and enjoy the sunshine.

 

Work on the day included cutting back branches so local tree surgeon Jamie Gilchrist from St Blazey lent his expertise – together with his friend Will Millford. Green keeper Carl Burley proved a very useful pair of skilled hands too.

 

One area of the garden has been planted in memory of former resident Ann Pearson. Ann lived at Woodland for almost eighteen months and, as a token of gratitude for the care she was given, her daughter Kelly Tregaskes donated a £250 garden centre voucher – together with £10 gift cards for every member of staff.

 

“I’m so grateful to everyone who came along and to Par Garden Centre for their knowledge, patience and donation to our cause,” said Woodland activity coordinator Leanne Masters.

 

“It was a long but productive and very enjoyable day, with regular cake treats specially made by our kitchen staff. 

 

“The makeover really has made such a difference – I can’t thank those involved enough.”
