Forget-me-not Chorus proves a big care home hit

Residents at St Breock, our care home in Wadebridge, have been taking part in a nationwide online singing get together and the weekly experience is proving a big hit.

St Breock specialises in looking after older people with physical needs and different types of dementia. Now, thanks to the Forget-me-not Chorus, they are able to join staff, family members and care home residents across the country in a live interactive singing session that St Breock manager Pauline Shilson describes as ‘absolutely fantastic’.

“I did a preview session with Janet, who lives with us,” she said. “It worked really well and seeing families joining in with their loved ones was a truly beautiful sight. Janet loved it, sang along to every word and attempted all the actions. It was very inclusive and felt as if we were in the room together. 

“We’ve now done sessions with other residents and they got a lot out of it too. At a time when the pandemic means we can’t together in person as much as we would like, it’s proving a huge success.”

The weekly event takes place on Zoom and currently involves 110 homes in an initiative designed to support those living with and alongside dementia.

“The pandemic has been awful for the care industry, but it has made us think creatively about how we can still bring people together even when they can’t physically see each other,” said Cornwall Care CEO Anne Thomas. 

“The Forget-me-not Chorus is a wonderful idea that is clearly bringing a lot of joy through the immense power of song.”
