Garden parties mark 25th anniversary

Garden parties have taken place in 12 of our homes to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary.

A wide range of activities included stalls, raffles, barbecues, afternoon teas and visiting singers who provided some excellent, interactive entertainment for residents. There was also an opportunity to throw wet sponges at staff volunteering to go in the stocks.

Blackwood, our home in Camborne held an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed party and ‘Marian’s Garden’ was opened at Redannick in Truro in honour of a lady who formerly lived there.

Trevern in Falmouth had an opera themed event to which classical soprano Rebecca Louise Dale was invited.

“Rebecca sang beautifully,” said Trevern Activity Coordinator Sharon Bennion. “It was a breath of fresh air to see our residents outside singing along and enjoying the entertainment safely.  Many memories were made and there was a feeling of joy and light at the end of the tunnel at last.”

Other homes holding the event included Chyvarhas in Callington, Woodland in St Austell, Cedar Grange in Launceston, The Green in Redruth, Trewartha in Carbis Bay, Pengover in Liskeard, Penberthy in Newquay, Trevarna in St Austell and Headland in Carbis Bay.

“The garden parties went really well and were a great opportunity to give our residents some outdoor fun after many months of lockdown,” said our Chief Executive Officer Anne Thomas. “The impact of the pandemic has been immense, so we wanted to give everyone a chance to smile and properly enjoy themselves again.

“Around £3500 was raised for our charity and that money will go towards improving facilities for the vulnerable people it is our privilege to care for. We’re grateful to all those involved for their support.”

Covid precautions meant the events were restricted to residents, staff and family members who all had to wear masks and prove a negative lateral flow test.
