Generous legacy in memory of Ron

Generous legacy in memory of Ron

Local funeral director Ron Bray, from Wadebridge, spent his last four years in our St Breock home, where he died peacefully in October 2021.

Now, thanks to a generous donation of £1300.50 from friends and family, his memory will live on in St Breock’s garden.

Ron loved to sit there in the sunshine and, since his favourite song was ‘The Blackbird’ by The Wurzels, some of the proceeds donated will go towards a bird table with a blackbird design that is being erected in his honour.

“Ron was a huge pillar of the local community, who was loved by so many,” said Cornwall Care St Breock manager Pauline Shilson.

“He had the brightest smile and was an all-round lovely man. Our garden was a happy place for him and, since we’ve got a project underway to make it an even better space for residents, it seemed entirely appropriate to use his legacy for that purpose.

“We’ll be inviting his widow Jean and his family to officially open the garden once it’s finished. We think that’s a great way of celebrating his life and the deep affection Ron inspired.”

Ron Bray was born near Withiel and moved to Wadebridge in his twenties. He followed his father, Sid, into the funeral profession and, in 1981, took over a local firm to establish R J Bray & Son Funeral Directors. A third generation of family members are now working in the business.
