Gardening delights at Mountford

Posted by admin on February 20,2019

One of our lovely residents who came to live with us at Mountford last year will be tending to the raised beds in our sensory garden and growing produce in our greenhouse this year.

Dorothy Haynes and her husband David, used to enjoy gardening together. Dorothy mentioned that she misses her own garden terribly so we asked her whether she would like to tend to our garden and greenhouse. She was very happy to be asked and said yes straight away.

Dorothy and David used to grow plants in their poly tunnels as a business so she has plenty of experience. Dorothy plans to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, courgettes, herbs, runner beans, sweet peas and other bedding plants for our residents to enjoy. Kay, our activities coordinator, has offered to help Dorothy and will be learning some very useful tips along the way.

I’m sure it will be a huge success and we will be keeping a progress diary so will post updates throughout the growing season. We’d like to thank Dorothy for offering to do this, you are such a lovely lady. We cannot wait to see what your ‘green fingers’ can create!

Gardening helps enhance well-being, improve dexterity, reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and improve relaxation and satisfaction.
