Platinum status for Mountford

Rigorous assessment takes place every three years and specialist training over 9 months, as well as substantial evidence of embedding good practice into daily routines, are required to earn the prestigious GSF badge.

Mountford looks after people with a range of conditions and offers full palliative care services.

Annie Scott, from St Austell, is one of our home’s two senior nurses. Having trained at the GSF Centre alongside founder and national clinical lead Professor Keri Thomas, she is a passionate advocate of putting individuals at the heart of care plans.

“We sit down and really listen to what each person and their families want,” she explained. “The questions we ask are honest and open and, although that isn’t easy, it does mean we understand people’s wishes so we can do our best to meet them.”

The process can include drawing up a bucket list.

“One lady had surfed into her seventies, so we arranged for her to go to the beach and watch the surfing going on,” said Annie. “Some of the young people came and chatted to her in the minibus. She was delighted and had the best day ever.

“I’ve worked at Mountford since 2012 and can honestly say it’s been the most rewarding job of my life.”

GSF is based on strict NICE guidelines and being reaccredited sets Mountford House apart as a home.

“We get a lot of word-of-mouth referrals because we’re well known locally for going above and beyond in our person-centred approach to care,” said manager Alison Rowe, who lives in Redruth. “Annie has worked really hard to get everything needed for our reaccreditation together and I can’t thank her and all our staff enough.

“Covid has made this last year very difficult but we’re a close-knit team who are there for one another.”

“I’d like to congratulate everyone involved for achieving GSF Platinum status,” said CEO Anne Thomas. “I’m personally very proud of the important work they do in looking after each and every resident so well. They truly are outstanding.”
