John and his young friend enjoyed a challenging game of chess recently.

John is one of our newer residents at Mountford. He loves to stretch his mind and chess is the perfect game to do just that. Not for nothing is chess known as ‘the games of kings’.

Research shows that older people who play brain-stretching games like chess are less likely to develop dementia. The brain works like a muscle; it needs exercise like any other muscle to be healthy and ward off injury. Playing chess also develops creativity by activating the right side of your brain and can also raise your IQ.
