Random acts of kindness and why they mean so much

There is no denying the enormous challenges each and every one of us are facing on a daily basis thanks to the current coronavirus pandemic.

Whether you’re on the frontline or doing your bit by staying at home, we are all living lives none of us could ever have imagined just over a month ago.

Yet, through all the darkness, there are countless moments of pure joy. Communities really do pull together when bad things happen and that is certainly true now. Random acts of kindness are happening everywhere and, however large or small, their impact is huge.

To give you some idea of what I’m talking about, here are a few examples of the many different ways people have been making us feel happy and grateful in the last week:

Much-needed hand cream was generously donated to our staff at Woodland House in St Austell.
Staff at Headlands in Carbis Bay and Blackwood in Camborne have been given handmade headbands to stop their masks hurting their ears.
A local company has arranged for caravans to be made available to staff at Cedar Grange in Launceston so they can stay on site.
Our chef at Chyvarhas in Callington has been making some exquisite birthday cakes and desserts for residents and staff.
One of our senior carers at Trevarna in St Austell has shaved her head to raise money for the home.
A member of St Ives Community Choir serenaded everyone at Headlands from the car park and a neighbour has been washing our carers’ cars whilst they have been at work.
A taxi driver is giving free lifts to staff.
The 10-year-old daughter of one of our Blackwood carers is running the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats on a cross trainer to help buy a magic table for the home and has already raised more than £2500 in a matter of days!

Thank you so much to everyone who is helping our carers. Knowing you’re there, thinking about them and doing whatever you can to support their vital work genuinely means so much.
