Smiles and fun are what Dawn Rudgewick-Brown looks forward to when going to work at Cornwall Care's Trevern home in Falmouth.
The newly appointed activity coordinator has hit the ground running since joining in February. She has organised a big fundraising raffle, made Jubilee brooches and decorations with the residents, taken them out for a cream tea, played games and arranged a Jubilee lunch with family and friends. She has also run a staff quiz which will become monthly.
Dawn, who is currently living in Trispen, has just passed her Level 3 Health and Social Care certificate with merit and couldn't be happier in her new role.
"I wanted to do something fun and interesting and that's exactly how I'd describe my job here," she said. "Seeing the residents smile and having a good time is wonderful and so rewarding. The team are great too. It really does feel like being part of an extended family."
Trevern is a 40-bed care home for people with Alzheimer's disease, different types of dementia and nursing needs.
"We're very happy that Dawn has joined and would like to say a big thank you to all the local businesses and individuals who donated some amazing prizes for the raffle," said Trevern's registered manager Melanie Bedlow.
"We raised £430 in ticket sales and that will all be spent on residents' activities. We also raised £102.15 from the lovely Jubilee brooches and another £34.80 from the dog biscuits donated by Falmouth's Pets at Home store."
