Only a short walk away from the popular beaches of Newquay, Penberthy enjoys fabulous seaside views and a lovely garden, where our residents have been enjoying some beautiful and warm spring sunshine over the last few months.
Over the Easter period, residents and staff had a fantastic time dressing up, playing games and raising money for Penberthy’s Amenities Fund, which pays for things like activities, entertainment and gifts for residents.
“Our residents have loved the beautiful sunshine. At Easter we had a little tea party lunch in the garden and some of the ladies dressed up in Easter bonnets. They also enjoyed a sensory tray with shells and sand in it. We had hot cross buns, a raffle and on the Sunday everyone enjoyed wearing Easter masks and eating chocolate eggs.”

The resident rabbit at Penberthy, Olaf, has also been out in the sunshine with our residents. Olaf is a permanent entertainer and is wonderful for the residents who have dementia in particular, as he provides a very calming and sensory atmosphere.
Over the last few weeks, residents and staff have also enjoyed a couple of milestone birthday parties for two of our staff; Gail Lennon who turned 60 (and has worked for Cornwall Care for 21 years) and Mel Monk who turned 50 (and has worked for Cornwall Care for 16 years). Residents had a lovely time celebrating this with them.
The management at Penberthy like to recognise their staff, celebrating their personal moments and showing their appreciation for all the hard work that they do.
“We would like to officially thank all our loyal staff at Penberthy; they work very hard to meet the needs of our residents, covering extra shifts at late notice and often going the extra mile in their own time. Mo and I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of our residents and us, to let them know how much we value them.”
Mandy Tappenden, Interim Manager at Penberthy
Earlier in the year, our staff and residents at Penberthy also got involved in Red Nose Day, where Duane Andrew Johns, X Factor finalist, performed for everyone. Our residents, staff, family and friends all wore red noses in support of the event.
Red Nose Day also coincided with the wedding anniversary of Mrs Meggs, one of our residents at Penberthy, who celebrated the day with her husband Les and her grandson. The chef at Penberthy made them a delicious homemade cake to celebrate.
The family-orientated and friendly atmosphere at Penberthy is welcoming and warm. It is a relaxed and comfortable home that enjoys beautiful surroundings, regular activities, engaging events and various entertainment throughout the year.
Penberthy will be opening up to the public this week, celebrating the national Care Home Open Day on Friday 16 June with a cream tea afternoon and a performance by a local singer. They would be delighted if people would come along to meet them.
