In celebration of the brilliant Dame Vera Lynn's 100th birthday, residents and staff at Trengrouse gathered to remember their youth and celebrate the milestone day.
Singer Kate Ferguson from Plymouth, entertained the crowd and there were DVDs of films from the era playing in several rooms, as well as war documentaries and classic musical hits from the 40s and 50s playing in the intermission.
Many of our residents across our homes remember Dame Vera Lynn well, for she was a well-known and loved figure throughout the war, famed for raising morale.
"It went really well. It was something we really take to heart, as being in Helston we're near a Naval base, and we have some residents who were in the military. It's something that we wanted to do for our residents. There were a few tears, it was nice."
Kim Cass, Customer Relations Administrator at Trengrouse, Helston
There was an all day buffet provided by our brilliant chefs, with people helping themselves to food and drink throughout the day. Family members were in attendance and overall it was a great day for all.
At Cornwall Care we believe providing events like this for our residents is really important, not just as an opportunity to have fun, but also as an exercise in remembrance. For our residents with dementia it can be really helpful. It is also a great opportunity for us to remember our residents' service in the war and celebrate them for their accomplishments.
