Trevern in Falmouth has been rated ‘Good’ in all aspects of its provision by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following an unannounced inspection in January.

The rating means all Cornwall Care homes, domiciliary and supported lifestyle services across the county are ‘Good’, with some areas of provision earning CQC’s ‘Outstanding’ assessment.

In its detailed report on Trevern, the CQC highlighted ‘a relaxed atmosphere in the service’ and the staff’s ‘friendly and compassionate support’.

“Without exception people and relatives told us they felt the service provided good care. Comments included “You really feel as though they are looking after you, I forget I’m in a home sometimes”, “I feel comfortable and I’ve never felt embarrassed with the care”, and “I think the carers are good, jokey and happy”.

The inspectors also wrote:

“Staff were highly committed to ensuring people lived fulfilling lives and were protected from social isolation. The focus of people's care was individualised and focused on promoting people's independence as well as their physical and mental well-being.”

Anne Thomas has been CEO of Cornwall Care since October 2018.

“Haley Blake was appointed manager in January 2019 and I’m so proud of what she and her team are doing to make Trevern a lovely home for residents and day care visitors,” she said. “You only have to walk in there to know what a genuinely caring, safe, happy and professionally-run place it is.

“Cornwall Care is all about people looking after people and our commitment to prioritising individual need and wellbeing is firmly at the heart of everything we do. I’m delighted with our across the board “Good’ rating and look forward to continually building on that achievement in the months and years to come.”
